This song was an opportunity to exercise some of what I learned in directing and create non-dance movement that fit the scene. I tried to consider the circumstances of character’s relationship with one another, what they want from one another, and how I could use distance or closeness to create tension.

- Bibi Osterwald was a Catholic actress; the original standby for Dolly.
- Carol Channing was the actress who originated the role of Dolly.
- Lenora Lemetz understudied for Gwen Verdon and Chita Rivera in Chicago, Liza Minnelli in The Rink, and Patti Lupone in Gypsy, among others.
- Shirley MacLaine understudied Carol Haney The Pajama Game. When Haney injured her ankle, MacLaine took over. Months later, her performance in the show got her signed to work with Paramount.
- Lana Turner was an actress supposedly discovered at a pharmacy called Schwabs.
- Ethel Merman originated the part of Gypsy’s mother Rose in Gypsy.
